Victrex Peek film protects membrane
switches
Golden Valley Products has chosen Victrex Peek film for use in its speciality membrane switches, to provide an effective barrier against moisture, chemicals and high temperatures.
When Golden Valley Products (GVP) wanted a material that would provide an effective barrier against moisture, chemicals and high temperatures for its speciality membrane switches, it chose Victrex Peek film Victrex Peek film has a better moisture resistance than polyester and polyimide, and has a higher operating temperature and better chemical resistance than polyester film

GVP also engineers Victrex Peek film into its speciality printed circuit sensors and thin-film potentiometers.
"Since we are printing a very sensitive conductive silver ink onto the film, we wanted to make sure that outside elements such as moisture can't get into the silver and corrode it", explained Mike Kretz, Design and Materials Engineer at GVP.
"Maintaining that barrier is extremely important for equipment such as insulin or med-infusion pumps where a switch malfunction is not an option".
"We use Victrex Peek film in our membrane switch designs when the design requirements call for the utmost protection and reliability".
Kretz described the membrane switch design: "It's a layered construction", he said.
"Complex membrane switch designs can have numerous layers".
"For our standard membrane switch panels, we use a pressure-sensitive adhesive to join the layers".
"For applications where it is imperative that a membrane switch be protected, we use Victrex Peek film".
"It creates a more durable barrier against moisture, heat and chemicals than a typical polyester or polyimide switch construction".
Located in Minneapolis, USA, Golden Valley Products uses cutting edge technologies and expert design engineering to manufacture top quality precision membrane switches, thin-film potentiometers, medical sensors, graphic overlays, custom labels, and 360-degree medical catheter printing.
