Thermoplastic cuts costs for USB
connectors
Substituting Victrex Peek polymer for metal gives InnoDisk us greater design flexibility and a shorter time to market for its USB drive connectors.
InnoDisk, a supplier of industrial flash storage devices, has replaced the metal shell and rubber core of its current USB drive connectors with Victrex Peek polymer, a high-performance thermoplastic, because of the polymer's design flexibility and ability to help lower the overall manufacturing costs While metal connectors are commonly used by the electronics and computer industries for almost all USB-connected devices, InnoDisk President, Richard Lee, believes that "Substituting Victrex Peek polymer for metal gives us greater design flexibility and a shorter time to market, thus lowering the overall product cost"

"By integrating the metal connectors and the rubber cores of the USB drive into a one-piece design, we can greatly minimise the complexity of manufacturing and reduce the product weight".
Victrex Peek polymer provides electronic components with an exceptional combination of benefits including wear resistance, strength, dimensional stability, high-temperature resistance and fatigue resistance.
"These properties make Victrex Peek polymer an suitable substitute for metal in USB connectors", explained Lee.
"Durability, reliability, temperature resistance and stability are all critical to the quality of USB drives".
"With Victrex Peek polymer's great performance and superior physical and chemical properties, we expect to shorten our time to market for our USB drive cards and to provide customers with more durable and reliable storage media to meet their design needs".
Victrex Peek polymer is increasingly being adopted and appraised by leading companies in the electronic component industry, according Gary Li, Country Manager of Victrex Taiwan, who believes USB connectors made with Victrex Peek polymer can potentially revolutionise the USB device, as well as other storage media.
