Carillion Rail and Jarvis Infrastructure Services are among the rail contractors seeking over 100 engineering professionals across all levels at The National Engineering Recruitment Exhibition.

Carillion Rail and Jarvis Infrastructure Services are among the rail contractors co-actively seeking over 100 engineering professionals across all levels at The National Engineering Recruitment Exhibition at the UK NEC, Birmingham on 28th and 29th November 2003.

With the GBP 18 billion investment planned for the UK railway infrastructure over the next three years, rail contractors are actively recruiting to meet the specific rail engineer shortfall.

"The industry requires more qualified rail engineers and increased investment in the industry means that we must look to other sectors as well as highlight the opportunities a rail engineering career offers.

As technology advances and long term contracts become more accepted, we all need to highlight the diversity, flexibility and security a career as a rail engineer offers in order to inspire engineers from all disciplines", says Sarah Bardell, Development Officer for Jarvis Infrastructure Services.

John Hooley, Recruitment Manager of Carillion Rail continued: "Both mechanical and civil engineers plus those with communication or electrical backgrounds are generally ideal candidates due to the transferability of their skills.

We also more often turning to the armed forces as they tend to have the necessary discipline and relevant skills as well as a thorough understanding of health and safety so training time can be reduced.

The National Engineering Recruitment Exhibition is a perfect opportunity to meet with all these candidates and it makes sense for us to work with our colleagues and competitors - a real case of 'all for one and one for all'".

As a recent recruit of Jarvis Infrastructure Services, Craig Zientek commented: "Since joining Jarvis Infrastructure Services, I have had the opportunity to experience and learn a great deal.

The railway industry is different to other engineering industries as the work is varied, requires flexibility and teamwork - no day is the same.

Plus safety is key, so comprehensive training is provided, which is great for a newcomer like me".

The National Engineering Recruitment Exhibition will be colocated with the National Construction Recruitment Exhibition (NCR) on the 28th and 29th November at Hall 3, NEC Birmingham, and offers a range of career opportunities including: permanent way engineers, signalling engineers, overhead line engineers and designers, planners, quantity surveyors, commercial management and SEQ management as well as graduate schemes.
