Airbus is looking is looking to recruit more than 120 people in the UK by the end of 2004 to work on the management, manufacturing, engineering and assembly of the first composite hybrid wing for its new A400M military transport aircraft, as well as the aircraft systems, at its Filton site.

To help meet this requirement, Airbus will be exhibiting at The National Engineering Recruitment Exhibition on 28th and 29th November 2003 at the UK NEC, Birmingham.

"The A400M represents a milestone for Airbus in the military aircraft market.

Those involved in its production will be making a significant advance in the use of carbon composites for the primary structures of large aircraft.

The new processes and technologies we'll be using at Filton represent a quantum leap forward for the Airbus wing manufacturing process", says Dick Ovens, Head of A400M Manufacturing, Airbus UK.

The A400M project will bring significant investment to the Southwest with Airbus investing about GBP 200 million at its Filton site over the next five years.

The A400M has been designed to meet the requirements of seven European air forces that recently signed a contract for the delivery of 180 aircraft.

Wing assembly will begin at Filton in 2005, with the first flight expected in 2008 and deliveries to the contracted air forces commencing in 2009.

Says Alan Camwell, HR Manager for Filton Manufacturing at Airbus: "We decided to position ourselves at NER, as it is the only exhibition in the UK that attracts engineers from all disciplines.

We are looking for engineers educated to degree/HND/HNC level who have a minimum of 3 years experience in either manufacturing engineering, planning and logistics or project management.

We will be collecting as many CV's as possible, so come prepared".

Dick Ovens, Head of A400M Manufacturing at Airbus, will be giving a presentation at NER to explain the project, the challenges that Airbus will be facing and the type of people Airbus are looking for to bring the design to life.
