Jargon buster cuts through the ATEX jungle
ABB has published an "ATEX jargon buster" that helps motor users cut through the jungle of terms and definitions that make up the new ATEX Directives.
Fitt comments: "The Government claims that skills, knowledge and technology are the key to the economy, yet its efforts to stimulate growth in this area fall short of the mark.
The announcement of a 10-year investment in science education by the Chancellor of the Exchequer is not enough to ensure that the decline in numbers entering the engineering profession is stemmed.
So if we as individuals don't do something about the decline now, by extolling the virtues of the profession to a wider audience, it's only going to get worse".
Fitt will be speaking to an audience of graduates and professionals at the event, which runs alongside the National Construction Recruitment Exhibition, offering recruitment opportunities in both engineering and construction.
Confirmed attendees include: Allianz Cornhill Engineering, Altran, BAA Heathrow, Bureau Veritas, Construction Industry Council, Eli Lilly, Institute of Chemical Engineers, Institute of Incorporated Engineers, Institute of Structural Engineers, General Dynamics, Input, McKinsey and Company, Nissan Technical Centre Europe, Royal Air Force, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Royal Navy, Teacher Training Agency, Transport for London, Total Fina Elf UK, Tube Lines, URS Corporation, Waterman Partnership and Wates Group.
Scott Bannerman, Venture Marketing Group, organiser of NER and NCR commented: "With the number of exhibitors increasing year on year, the event is fast becoming not only a resource for recruitment opportunities and skills development, but a forum for debating some of the most pertinent issues in engineering and construction today.
We are delighted that Dawn Fitt is available to offer her views on how to overcome the skills gap in engineering and hope that this stimulates thought and debate among visitors".
