Flexible working hours was the most popular benefit chosen by 61% of those questioned in a recent survey conducted by Venture Marketing Group at The National Engineering Recruitment Exhibition.

Flexible working hours was the most popular benefit chosen by 61% of those questioned in a recent survey conducted by Venture Marketing Group at The National Engineering Recruitment Exhibition (NER) and National Construction Recruitment Exhibition (NCR) Out of 12 potential benefits, visitors were asked to choose - and rank according to importance - five that would be most influential in a decision to join a new company

Holiday allowance was the second most popular choice (57%), followed closely by health insurance (56%), a contributory pension (47%) and life insurance (44%).

Remote working, share options/profit share, maternity, paternity and adoption policies, a company car policy, a charitable ethos and a discounted gym membership were benefits considered the least important when choosing a new job.

Only 8% of respondents voted for a company bar tab.

Scott Bannerman, Venture Marketing Group, organiser of NER and NCR commented: "The survey supports the theory that many people in today's fast moving society with increasingly demanding work pressures are trying to achieve a work/life balance".

"Flexible hours, a decent holiday allowance, investment in pensions, health and life insurance are all tools that enable people to fulfil this goal".

"Choices also reflect an interest in investing in the future".

"Employers are recognising these trends and are consequently trying to respond to them in the benefit packages offered to new employees - both to graduates and experienced professionals".

"Companies across all sectors are discovering that in order to find and retain high calibre staff, communication of key company benefits is crucial".

"Recruitment shows such as NER and NCR provide such a platform".

NER and NCR will take place on Friday 26th (1100-1700 GMT) and Saturday 27th November (1100-1600 GMT) at the NEC, Birmingham.

Entry to the show is free and there will be recruitment experts available for one-to-one CV consultations.
