Victrex has fine-tuned its products and developed enhanced processing techniques that allow Peek polymer to be applied as a powder coating using conventional equipment

Victrex has initiated the global launch of its Peek-Coat for powder coating applications Working in co-operation with a number of commercial coaters, Victrex has fine-tuned its products and developed enhanced processing techniques that allow Peek polymer to be applied as a powder coating using conventional equipment

A selection of powder coated parts will form a focal point at the Manufacturing Week 2000 exhibition, Birmingham, UK - Hall 1, Stand 1561.

Additionally product applications ranging from semiconductor instrumentation to industrial machinery parts and automotive bearings will showcase the high performance properties of Victrex Peek polymer at this year's exhibition.

A key advantage of powder coating with Peek-Coat is that it provides a highly cost-efficient means of enhancing part performance, even in small volume production runs.

When a thin layer of high-build Peek-Coat polymer coating is applied to a substrate, it confers all the properties of Peek polymer to that application and aids the retention of structural benefit of the substrate.

Thus, the volume of polymer used can be significantly lower than when producing the part by other processing techniques.

Therefore, parts that cannot be moulded using Peek polymer but require the enhanced performance properties of Peek, are excellent candidates for powder coating.

The properties that make Peek polymer a unique moulding material are the same as those conferred to a part by Peek-Coat finishing.

These include: high temperature resistance and the retention of mechanical performance at high temperature; outstanding wear and abrasion resistance; good performance in a wide range of chemical and radiation environments; excellent fire, smoke and toxicity performance and good electrical properties.

All Victrex Peek polymer applications to be displayed will highlight the many individual properties the polymer brings to its major markets.

In medical applications it can withstand 3,000 autoclave sterilisation cycles at temperatures up to 134C; all unfilled Peek grade are FDA compliant for food processing usage; industrial components benefit from its inherent lubricity and excellent fatigue properties are of particular value to automotive designers.

The inherent characteristics of Victrex Peek polymer include high strength, resistance to temperatures up to 260C and dimensional stability.

Coupled with ease of processing and outstanding design flexibility, Peek polymer continues to drive innovation in an ever-widening application spectrum in automotive, medical, food processing, industrial and electronics components.

Victrex plc, which has its sales, technical and production headquarters at Thornton Cleveleys in Lancashire, UK, had a turnover of more than ?47m in the last financial year.

The company exports 98 percent of its Victrex Peek polymer output to OEMs in the automotive, industrial, medical, food and electronics market sectors in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.
