Re-usable light conductors are an intrinsic part of laser equipment used in a number of high precision surgical techniques.
Aptiv film provides Dornier MedTech with a complete solution to fully meet the exacting requirements of this application through a combination of key material properties facilitating the superior level of performance required in the demanding laser surgery environment.
The film offers excellent resistance to steam sterilisation at 134C and aggressive cleaning and disinfecting agents.
Its very low levels of extractable ions also enhance its suitability for this application.
In fact, all unfilled Aptiv film grades are characterised by high purity and excellent hydrolysis resistance.
Due to the inherent purity of Aptiv film, only the lowest quantities of ionic constituents can be determined in specimens stored in de-ionised water at 55C for 24 hours by using mass spectroscopy.
Aptiv also offers high dimensional stability and excellent mechanical properties.
Its heat resistance allows a maximum continuous-use temperature of up to 220C.
Even exposure to steam at 200C for 2000 hours and pressure of 1.4MPa will not reveal any significant changes to the high values of the mechanical properties of Aptiv film.
Aptiv can be readily printed upon using many conventional printing techniques, as well as by laser marking.
Based on Victrex Peek polymer, Aptiv film is an extremely versatile and high performing product that delivers a broad range of capabilities under a diverse range of conditions.
Aptiv films are available with thicknesses as low as 6um and widths of up to 1500mm.
The product selected by Dornier MedTech for this particular application has a thickness of 125um.
