EOS bases material on Victrex Peek polymer

A Victrex product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 19, 2009

EOS and Victrex, the global manufacturer of Peek polymer, have developed a Peek material specifically designed for high-temperature laser sintering.

Peek HP3 is the first Peek material that can be sintered and processed on EOS' high-temperature P 800 machine, introduced at Euromold 2008 last December.

It is characterised by a combination of properties that include fire resistance, light weight, high tensile strength and biocompatibility.

Dr Hans Langer, EOS founder and chief executive officer, says: 'The development of this system was a logical step forward because laser sintering is ideally suited to premium and complex applications which are frequently based on high-performance polymers.' Laser sintering quickly produces parts directly from electronic data, accelerating product development and optimising production processes.

The technology provides greater freedom of design to engineers, developers and product designers in all industries.

The generative layer build-up process results in maximum flexibility, creating and producing 3D geometries efficiently and cost-effectively.

EOS and Victrex plan to conduct joint workshops and informative meetings to educate users about the broad potential of sintering technology using Peek materials.
