Vicote coatings improve performance of shoe moulds

A Victrex product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 7, 2009

Du Wei Enterprise Company of Taiwan has selected Vicote coatings to enhance the performance of its shoe moulds.

Vicote is a tough, high-wear-resistant coating that is said to be more effective than traditional mould release agents.

Based on a Victrex Peek polymer, a high-performance thermoplastic, a Vicote coating has a lifetime of up to one-and-a-half months (about 5,000 cycles), which is 30 times greater than PTFE.

Used to produce shoes made of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) resin, the two-colour shoe moulds are subject to extreme high temperature and aggressive environment, placing added demands on materials.

With the continuous-use temperature of 260C (500F) and the ability to maintain mechanical properties in high-temperature operating environments, Vicote coatings can address the challenges facing shoe mould manufacturers.

Gary Li, senior market development manager of Victrex, said: 'The Vicote coating is a tough, resilient and high-wear-resistant coating with varying levels of lubricants to provide good release properties.'.
