Connect and detect for Profibus diagnostics

A novel range of "connect and detect" connectors provide detailed diagnostics and troubleshooting on Profibus systems.

The Profichip Division of Vipa, the German manufacturer of innovative PLC and PC based automation solutions, has launched a range of "connect and detect" connectors for diagnostics and troubleshooting on Profibus systems.

The EasyConn-PB is simply connected to Profibus nodes or components via built-in cable guided screw-clamp terminations with standard type A cable (EN50170).

After a self-test cycle, the device provides diagnostic information via four colour-coded LEDs (with on, off and flashing states) to determine a comprehensive list of functions including correct voltage supply and power level for device, device active/inactive on the bus and termination active/inactive or faulty termination.

Integral 9-pin male and female sub-D connectors and a termination resistor switch are used for system expansion, bus analysis and programming.

With no need to remove the device, testing and diagnosis is permanent, convenient and reliable.

EasyConn-PB operates at baudrates up to 12Mbaud with extremely low power consumption.

The diagnostic range covers three models with 0, 45 and 90-degree cable exits to match installation requirements.

The 0-degree version is for straight through inline use.

The EasyConn-PB has transparent cable slots with colour-coded dual cable screw-clamps and a captive, single screw fitting mechanism for fast and reliable cable termination.

Mounting the EasyConn-PB is further simplified with both LEDs and termination switches being accessible from both sides of the connector with the added benefit of reducing number of model options required for a given installation.

All models have a ruggedised, die-cast zinc housing ensuring high noise immunity, and at Eur 40 for the diagnostic versions and Eur 32 for the basic model, the EasyConn-PB is very competitively priced.
