Virtual reality deal for UK

A Virtalis product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jan 27, 2006

Virtual reality hardware and software company appoints reseller for the UK.

Virtalis has been appointed as the UK reseller for Worldviz VR-related hardware and software.

Among these are the Vizard Virtual Reality Toolkit software for developing high-performance 3D graphics applications and PPT, an optical wide-area position tracking system.

The Vizard toolkit enables the creation of interactive 3D content.

The software was designed for rapid prototyping and lets the user choose between two scripting levels.

Users with no programming experience can create interactive 3D content and instantly interface with a broad range of hardware devices via the simple scripting language, Python.

Experts can use a C++ interface in the enterprise version of the software.

Digital humans can be inserted to populate the virtual environments developed.

Vizard supports major head-mounted displays, LCD shutter glasses and other display technologies.

PPT provides optical tracking over areas more than 10 by 10m.

Using camera-based technology and Worldviz image processing technology, the PPT products deliver flexible and accurate tracking.

As a 60Hz real-time system, the tracker registers the instant a subject performs a motion.

The system is quick to calibrate, unaffected by the metal content of the room in which it is being used, and integrates with real-time rendering tools.

Peter Schlueer, President of Worldviz, said: "Virtalis was the obvious choice for us in the UK".

"Its varied applications and customer base will help us to see where the market for virtual reality is going".
