Acquisition system passes remote island test
Vibtech is celebrating the successful testing of its ground-breaking Unite cable free remote data acquisition and transmission system on the island of Islay, off the southwest coast of Scotland.
Vibtech, the developer of wireless solutions for the oil, gas and mineral exploration sector, is celebrating the successful testing of its ground-breaking Unite cable free remote data acquisition and transmission system on the island of Islay, off the southwest coast of Scotland.
The island, famed for its world class malt whisky, was home to the company's engineering and field operations divisions which combined to stage a 3D test of the revolutionary system at the end of May, using similar acquisition parameters to those planned for Unite's first field trial in Texas in July.
Developed at Vibtech's base in Larbert, Scotland, Unite is the world's lightest, most flexible and reliable seismic acquisition system, offering unlimited channel capacity without the straightjacket of digital cables and connectors or VHF radio transmission.
The three-in-one cable-free seismic acquisition system allows users to select between real time telemetry of the entire dataset, local storage of the data with transmission of reduced bit QC data for a visual check of the shot records and true nodal acquisition, with data being stored locally in the field Units.
In the stored data modes, data may be harvested remotely during acquisition while in-situ, using each field unit's wireless LAN or via the field Unit's Ethernet connection simultaneously during battery recharging at the field camp.
Unite performed exceptionally well during the tests, with both the novel wireless network and the stored data mode operating flawlessly.
Doug Gibson, Vibtech CEO said: "We are all extremely encouraged by the results from these initial tests of Unite which have proved to the world that cable free seismic data acquisition is now a reality".
"Unite has removed the need for any transmission cables and the stored data function allows users to choose if they want to transmit data to the CCU and record in real time or to store data for harvesting later on".
"Our engineering team is now busy preparing for our first production trials with a major oil company in Texas during early July, when we anticipate that we will be able to demonstrate the true flexibility of Unite and reinforce the fact that it is the most adaptable system on the market".
