Visioneering has applied its proven automative technologies in the aid of a first-tier aerspace company.

Client confidentiality is a vital part of Visioneering's ethos That's why it can't yet reveal full details of the successful completion of a major new aerospace project

However, it can give an outline of this important order, which has demonstrated the benefits of applying Visioneering's proven automotive technologies in new sectors such as aerospace.

The client is a significant first-tier supplier to the aerospace industry, with the task of making an extended-range fuel tank for an executive business jet.

A very demanding timescale, combined with today's most stringent aerospace quality standards, required something special in the way of tooling design and production.

Visioneering first underwent a rigorous supplier assessment to establish its eligibility to tender for the contract.

The deciding factor in winning the job was the ability to deliver a complete service from concept to commissioning.

Chief Executive Brian Horner commented: "Our methods have been honed in the intensely competitive automotive industry, and they are readily transferable to other industries".

"We can help our customers to cut unnecessary time and cost from programmes".

"By working in partnership with the customer from day one of the product's conceptual phase, we can help to ensure that the final design hits the targets for cost and ease of manufacture".

With a capacity of over 6350kg of usable fuel, the long-range tank is large, with a plan area of some 3 x 1.5m.

In total the project involved 40 complex stretch-form tools, substantial vacuum-hold fixtures for drilling and routing, and two final assembly fixtures, plus all the associated installation, calibration and support activities.

This was completed, along with a duplicate tooling set, in less than five months.

This project is an illustration of the full service capability available from Visioneering, which is becoming increasingly important in the aerospace sector today.

Visioneering demonstrated that it can meet the customer's requirements in every aspect of design, quality, cost and timing.
