Pumps reduce total cost of ownership

A Verderflex product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 15, 2007

The design of Verder's S series pump is simple and straight forward, with a clear separation of the mechanical and electrical components.

Whilst submersible pumps offer reliable priming on start up their cost of ownership is high.

Because the electrics are submerged, complex and expensive sealing systems have to be employed and when these begin to fail no body knows, the problem being hidden beneath the surface, where bearing problems also go undetected.

As a result the first the owner knows of a problem is when the pump fails.

When submersible pumps are then removed for examination they are often found to be beyond economical repair or at least very expensive to repair because of their specialised design and construction.

Further complications are experienced when removing the pump for service with respect working procedures, lifting, risk assessment, health and safety and confined space working.

Responsible practices often require double manning when working over open underground chambers, and lifting equipment requires to be maintained and well as certified.

Once removed the mechanical maintenance of the pump cannot be separated from the electrical side of the unit, requiring specialised personnel to undertake any repair work.

All this results in a high true cost of ownership, a lot of which is often hidden.

Verder's S series offers a robust surface mounting pump that delivers a highly reliable self priming suction lift capability.

Problems with the pump can be seen or heard, quickly identified and rectified at low cost.

The design of the pump is simple and straight forward.

There is clear separation of the mechanical and electrical components.

Specialised lifting equipment is not required.

The S series represents a robust reliable construction incorporating hard-faced abrasion-resistant seal faces, as well as secondary sealing with grease packing, which prevents air leaks and helps protect against dry running.

It has renewable wear plates for abrasive applications, an open impeller for better solids handling, long and close coupled formats, and ATEX certification is available for hazardous area operation.

The Verder self priming pump represents a modern highly reliable pump that primes every time.

Air leaks are eliminated by secondary sealing and the priming cycle is added by an inbuilt re-inforced suction nonreturn valve.
