Motion cards offer lower cost alternative

A Varedan Technologies product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jan 3, 2005

New from Varedan Technologies is the VMC-2000 series of motion controllers for stepper and servo applications.

Varedan Technologies continues to expand its line of OEM motion control products with the introduction of the VMC-2000 series motion controllers for stepper and servo applications.

The VMC-2000 series motion control cards are functionally compatible with the Motion Engineering (MEI) XMP-PCI motion controllers, offering customers of the XMP-PCI a lower cost alternative source with 3.3V PCI compatibility.

The VMC-2000 series motion controllers are full-length universal slot PCI cards available with either four (VMC-2400) or eight axes (VMC-2800) of motion.

Each axis features quadrature encoder feedback inputs, optically isolated limit, amplifier fault, and home sensor inputs and an amp enable output.

Dual 12bit DACs provide 16 channels of +/-10V DC analogue outputs for either servo control or general-purpose use.

Configurable RS422 differential line drivers provide pulse and direction outputs as well as a spare output for each axis.

Eight optically isolated general-purpose I/O pins can be configured by the user's application.

A high-speed position capture input can be configured using one of the optically isolated inputs on each axis.

Through the use of high-density VHDCI connectors, the VMC-2000 series allows all connections to be made to the card without the need for running wires and cables inside the PC chassis.

Four high-density connectors provide two axes of connections each and are pin for pin compatible with the MEI XMP-PCI pinout.

Breakout boards are available to provide connections to each signal, or premade cables can be purchased from a number of third party vendors.

The included software library routines enable the user to quickly build their motion application code using C/C++.

Windows drivers are included for plug and play installation on any PC platform.

Example programming applications are included and can be used to get the card up and running in a few minutes.
