An accelerometer made by VTI Technologies is used in the latest active engine mount system developed by Avon Automotive.

Avon's Vibramount systems with VTI sensors are delivered to the British sports and luxury car manufacturer Jaguar.

According to Jaguar, the Vibramount system enables it to eliminate as much as 90% of engine vibration in the diesel models of Jaguar XJ series, launched in 2005.

"The co-operation with Avon Automotive is a significant new opening for VTI".

"We are the market leader in supplying small-scale accelerometers for ESP systems and electric suspension systems".

"This application is a new breakthrough for us and proves the suitability of our technology and products also for low-frequency vibration measurement", says Hannu Laatikainen, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, VTI Technologies.

During the final stages of Avon's Vibramount product development it turned out that VTI's overdamped acceleration sensors were perfect for this type of demanding applications.

VTI outperformed competitive products whose detrimental tendency to resonate at high frequencies disturbed the actual measurement.

The current system includes two broadband SCA610 series components by VTI that measure engine vibration.

Engine vibration measurement is a new, growing market.

Large diesel engines, as well as engines where some of the cylinders can be disconnected, are the most important applications for vibration dampening measurement.

The proportion of diesel engines in upper middle and luxury class cars is growing rapidly, making efficient vibration dampening increasingly important.
