Free STEP utilities released

A VX Corporation product story

VX Corporation is announcing the release of free utilities designed to assist STEP translator developers.

VX Corp., a recognized authority on the processing of neutral geometry data, e.g STEP and IGES, was an early adopter of STEP technology.

Not surprisingly, VX's STEP translation is considered to be one of the best among MCAD vendors.

However, although STEP has now been available for sometime, many CAD/CAM packages are still unable to deliver its advantages in geometry definition.

This is no doubt partly due to the fact that STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data) is an ever-growing standard (ISO 10303) of mammoth proportions of which geometry data is only a portion.

The overall objective of STEP is to provide a neutral mechanism capable of describing product data throughout the product life-cycle that is independent from any particular software application or platform.

Inevitably, wading through this huge sea of information is daunting.

Therefore, in support of the common interests of all CAD/CAM users, VX Corp has decided to make its VX STEP Utilities available at no charge to the STEP developer community.

The Utilities are accessible via the STEP page on VX's web site and are designed to assist the programmer's navigation through the STEP documentation.

The software presents the STEP information in a highly digestible format and provides powerful drill-down search capabilities.

"It is VX's sincere wish that releasing these STEP utilities will raise the standard across the CAD/CAM industry to the benefit of engineers and designers everywhere", said Robert Byrnes, VX Vice President, Research and Development.
