VX has added a face attributes library to its modelling environment.

Face attributes give users a real-time, photo-realistic view of products while they're being modelled.

Images play a crucial role at all stages of development in product design; however, product designers often face a lack of preparation time for developing these images.

To produce photo-realistic images using CAD rendering software requires some preparation, possibly including other models to set the scene.

The simplest of rendering programs still requires a certain amount of knowledge, skill and experience to produce satisfying results and are often left to the specialised skills of industrial designers.

VX has implemented an effective, time saving method requiring little effort that's available to designers of all levels.

Designers can select representative model face attributes from a pre-defined library.

Attributes such as metals, paint finishes and plastics (including transparency) can be instantly applied to a model.

The whole library has been defined for the VX shaded model environment.

A background image can be quickly applied whether it be a generic patterned image from VX, a user-defined graduated colour background or an image from a digital camera.

The result is a model that looks much more authentic, yet the user has not had to invest any time in adjusting lighting and so on or waiting for a render to calculate, which, depending on the model, can take from a few minutes to hours or even days.

The effect is completed almost instantaneously.

Bob Fischer, VX VP for Sales and Marketing, said: "Even for final presentations, it is often the case that designers do not require large format prints for all of their work".

"We live in a multimedia age".

"Realistic CD based material to be played back on-screen and images for the web can be very impressive and very quickly produced with VX".
