Rapid prototyping goes on show in Detroit

A VX Corporation product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 25, 2007

Designers of consumer products can rapidly achieve stylish product designs using VX' free form surfacing tools and proprietary hybrid modeling engine.

VX Corporation will be demonstrating rapid prototyping and design to manufacturing techniques at the Rapid 2007 Conference and Exposition in Detroit, Michigan May 1st-3rd.

Technologies demonstrated at the VX booth benefit companies such as prototyping service bureaus, mould-makers and machine shops.

Designers of consumer products can rapidly achieve stylish product designs using VX' free form surfacing tools and proprietary hybrid modeling engine.

Likewise, VX' solution for converting scanned point-cloud data into 3D models works without expensive third party add-ons.

For prototyping service bureaus and mould making companies, demonstrations show how models can easily be imported, healed and repaired for subsequent processing.

For rapid prototyping companies, subsequent processing includes exporting models in STL format for 3D printing.

VX Mold and Die highlights tools to generate parting lines, core/cavities, repair undercuts, and analyse and fix draft angles.

VX' powerful, time-saving design automation and machining strategies optimise high-quality, smooth-finish moulds.

VX mould automation combines advanced modeling with Mold Expert, a library of smart components for creating intelligent mould assemblies with parametric cooling channels, sliders and ejectors, all of which are accessed through an intuitive interface fashioned specifically for the mould design process.

With Mold Expert smart components, users can select components for mould assemblies such as fasteners for a series of plates, and VX automatically calculates the required length, clearances and manufacturing methods.

For machine shops, VX' QuickMill is optimised to produce high-quality finished moulds while reducing machine wear and tear and improving machine tool utilisation.

QuickMill's tool paths provide extraordinarily smooth transitions between surfaces to reduce polishing time.

"Rapid prototyping shows have always been good for VX because many of the attendees are directly involved in activities where they can see distinct advantages offered by time-saving technologies embedded in VX CAD/CAM", said Bob Fischer, VX VP of Sales and Marketing.

"The best way to really get a good understanding of these advantages is by stopping by the VX booth and seeing the demos first hand".

Rapid 2007 is North America's largest annual rapid manufacturing conference and exposition.

Rapid 2007 brings together buyers, sellers and end-users of design, prototyping, tooling, and direct manufacturing technologies in an environment that facilitates networking and business interaction.
