Terminal blocks increase short-circuit ratings

A Wago Corp product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 22, 2008

New 100kA rating for Wago terminal blocks ensures that devices will continue to serve motor control, variable frequency drives and control panels.

Wago Corporation's DIN-rail mount terminal blocks, ranging from the 280 Series to 285 Series Power Cage Clamp, now carry a 100kA short circuit current rating (SCCR) when used with appropriate fuses.

The SCCR originates from changes enacted by the US National Electric Code and is represented as UL508A.

SCCR ensures proper documentation of the maximum short circuit current a component, assembly or equipment can safely withstand when protected by a specific overcurrent protective device.

For instance, a control cabinet's SCCR is the same as that of a component, in the cabinet's electrical distribution path, with the lowest SCCR.

"The 100kA rating for Wago terminal blocks ensures that our blocks will continue to serve motor control, variable frequency drives and control panels that require higher SCCR ratings", says Michelle Goeman, Product Manager - Terminal Blocks and Electronic Interface.
