Sheffield-based Ward CNC has supplied a four-axis Soraluce SP6000 travelling-column bed-type milling machine to specialist engineer, Thomson Machine and Tool.

The order reflects the Frome company's continual rise in its order book, and is a direct result of the success of a Ward-supplied six-axis SP6000 which for the past three years or so has been used in the production of forged titanium main and engine rings for the aerospace industry.

The complex rings come off the Soraluce as finish-machined items.

With a spindle power of 28kW, the SP6000 has x, y and z axes travels of 4500 x 1600 x 1200mm and a table area of 6000 x 1100mm.

It was this specification, coupled with Ward's record of service and support, the performance of the existing Soraluce and the machine's high-quality design and build - the heavy-duty cast iron construction promotes rigidity and stability - that spurred managing director Alan Thomson into placing his second order on Ward CNC, the Spanish machine tool builder's exclusive UK agent.
