LED lamps shed light on machining

Waldmann Lighting has used LED technology to develop a new type of machine tool light that is compact, powerful and can give up to 50,000 hours of maintenance-free service life.

Waldmann Lighting has used LED technology to develop a new type of machine tool light that is compact, powerful and can give up to 50,000 hours of maintenance-free service life The LEDWL 1 luminaires are designed to work in the hostile environment of the machining envelope

They withstand both constant flushing with coolants and damage from hot or sharp chips.

In contrast to traditional halogen lights, the LED produces almost no heat.

This means that it is safe to touch and that coolant does not burn onto the front lens of the light and reduce its output.

The unit's small size and rugged design mean that it can be mounted right next to the workpiece to give powerful illumination exactly where it is needed for safe and error-free tool and workpiece setting.

On a vertical machining centre, for example, the LEDWL 1 can be mounted directly on the machine spindle and move with it so that the light is always pointing at the area being machined.

The LED lights run at frequencies in excess of 30kHz and so are completely flicker-free and cause no stroboscopic effect.

As with all Waldmann machine lights, the LEDWL 1 meets and exceeds the requirements of the European Machinery Directive on machine lighting as set out in EN1837 - it delivers at least 500lux in the working area with no glare, shadowing or stroboscopic effect.

The LED units are already being factory fitted by leading international machine tool manufacturers.

The LEDWL 1 can pivot through 40 degrees on a ball joint for easy positioning, and is available in two beam angles - giving spot or flood illumination.

Power supplies are available for mains voltages - covering any supply from 95 to 240V - and also for 24V low-voltage safety circuits. Request a free brochure from Waldmann Lighting ...
