LED lamps are compact for machine lighting

A Waldmann Lighting product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 29, 2005

Compact LED and fluorescent lights from Waldmann Lighting have been designed to provide optimum lighting conditions for almost any operation - even when space is at a premium.

Providing adequate and appropriate lighting can be a major problem when machining small intricate components - especially if the working area is restricted.

Compact LED and fluorescent lights from Waldmann Lighting have been designed to provide optimum lighting conditions for almost any operation - even when space is at a premium.

Good machine tool lighting is essential for the safe and accurate setting of tools and fixtures, and many complex operations depend on the operator having a clear view of what is happening during machining.

Good lighting has also been proven to reduce operator fatigue, improve quality and raise productivity.

What's more, it is a legal requirement under the European Machinery Directive - as set out in EN1837 - which calls for at least 500 lux in the working area with no glare, shadowing or stroboscopic effect.

Waldmann Lighting's LED luminaires can provide a very compact and powerful light source enclosed in a robust housing that can withstand constant flushing with coolant and will not be damaged by chip impacts.

The lights emit no heat, which means they are safe to touch, and give up to 50,000 hours of maintenance-free life.

Because of their small size and rugged construction they can be mounted directly on the cutting head or column, giving strong, precise illumination exactly where it is needed.

The standard lighting head is just 29mm in diameter and just 80mm long, including a universal ball joint mounting.

Gooseneck and flexible tube-mounted versions are also available.

If there is a need for a high level of general illumination in the working zone Waldmann Lighting's AWDE compact fluorescent tube light may be the answer.

The AWDE is a robust, watertight unit with a compact 18W compact lamp and a flicker-free electronic ballast.

The lamps are housed in a tough, chip-resistant, borosilicate glass pot.

They can either provide uniform level of illumination to the whole of the machining area or be fitted with a parabolic reflecting louvre to give glare-free directional lighting.

Graeme Hall, Managing Director of Waldmann Lighting , says: "With the right combination of lighting we can provide the optimum solution for almost any machining application, however restricted the workspace".

"Our LED lights are becoming increasingly popular with machine tool manufacturers who are supplying them factory fitted on a wide variety of equipment, including lathes, machining centres, drills and EDM systems".

"Indeed, Waldmann lights are used by most of the world's leading machine tool manufacturers, including Yamazaki Mazak, DMG, Trumpf, Charmilles and Mori Seiki".
