Vice systems claimed to double productivity

A WDS product story

Two new twin vice systems from WDS enable companies producing machined parts to double their productivity by clamping two or more components at once.

Two new twin vice systems from WDS enable companies producing machined parts to double their productivity by clamping two or more components at once.

The heavy duty 'Twin Vice' and the lighter duty machinable 'Speed Clamp' are the same size as normal vices, but have two jaws moving in simultaneously towards a fixed centre jaw.

Both systems are designed for use with horizontal and vertical CNC machining centres and can be used for components with regular or complex surfaces.

Several vices can also be mounted on a location plate for multiple machining operations.

Each tough Twin Vice is supplied with hardened steel jaws as standard, ideal for holding a wide range of items during machining and for general workshop use.

For fixturing, there is the option of 'quick change' soft steel or high tensile aluminium jaws.

These afford maximum flexibility by allowing alternative designs of jaw to be used on one unit.

The alternative jaws can be profiled by machining to suit the component, allowing complex parts to be held and in a set orientation.

Depending on the component size, the jaws can be machined to hold four components per unit, increasing productivity even further.

The ability to clamp up to four components simultaneously also applies to the lighter duty Speed Clamp, which has high tensile machinable aluminium jaws fitted as standard.

As with the Twin Vice, machinable soft steel jaws are also available.

Soft jaws are reversible and have a generous machining allowance, often enabling them to be re-profiled a number of times for new components.

A speed change system enables the jaws on both units to be changed very quickly, further reducing the time taken to change from one type of component to another.

Each moving jaw is retained by a single, quick-acting locking bolt, which makes it extremely fast in comparison with competitive methods.

The centre jaw is retained by two shoulder screws.

The units are both operated by means of a standard hexagon drive, making them compatible with general wrenches, including ratchet and torque wrenches.

The Speed Clamp and Twin Vice systems are available direct from WDS.

They are featured in the current fixturing catalogue and on the WDS website where the product can be viewed and purchased on-line.
