WDS has introduced Mighty Mag to the UK, an innovative new device based on a small but powerful industrial magnet that has proved a big hit with engineers in the United States.
WDS has introduced Mighty Mag to the UK, an innovative new device based on a small but powerful industrial magnet that has proved a big hit with engineers in the United States.
The units are used for holding instruments and light items of equipment in place on machine beds and prepared metal surfaces where they have to be moved frequently or require fast positioning by hand.
The body of a Mighty Mag is cast and machined to give a strong durable base for fixing equipment to.
Each unit contains a sealed ferrous magnet and has six locations for mounting a variety of accessories.
These include three M5 x 10mm tapped holes, one M6 x 12mm tapped hole and one 8mm reamed hole.
It also features a V-Shaped hole in the back where rods from 3.2mm to 9.9mm can be fixed.
Measuring only 110x25x27mm, each Mighty Mag has 20kgs of holding power.
This is easily enough to secure light equipment or simple jigs-such as a straight edge for marking, welding or short run hand cutting and machining jobs.
These handy magnets can also be used to hold rod mounted dial gauges for width and depth measurement on metalworking and woodworking equipment, as well as holding a diamond to dress grinding wheels.
Used to hold precise measuring equipment, Mighty Mag can improve the accuracy of simple tasks performed on older equipment such as milling machines.
Because the magnet can be moved easily by hand, it offers great flexibility in terms of positioning and the number of machines it can be used on.
This flexibility makes it ideal for general engineering and maintenance workshops carrying out varying work with several machines.
