Specials service keeps production on track

A WDS product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 5, 2002

WDS has kept one of Europe's largest producers of shower trays on target by designing, manufacturing and supplying bespoke fixtures for the company's new Merlin range of adjustable shower trays.

WDS has kept one of Europe's largest producers of shower trays on target by quickly designing, manufacturing and supplying bespoke fixtures for the company's new Merlin range of adjustable shower trays.

WDS provided Just Trays with free technical advise as part of a new 'specials' service, helping them to improve the initial design and increasing end product quality.

The speed of the service also ensured that critical time-to-market was kept to a minimum and at no extra cost.

Just Trays new Merlin range of shower trays is designed to overcome the two basic problems encountered when fitting a shower tray, uneven floor surfaces and awkward plumbing due to limited access.

The new design allows quick and accurate installation using height adjustable feet on the tray itself and separate facia panels on the exposed sides.

The height adjusting mounting system leaves plenty of room for plumbing and the clip-on facia provides a fast way of achieving a professional finish.

After examining the initial designs supplied by Just Trays, WDS noticed a stress point in the plastic stanchions and included a fillet radius in the pattern to strengthen them.

To create a stronger unit, the height adjusting feet are designed to fit brass bars cast into the stone resin body of the shower tray.

WDS were also able to provide the brasswork cut to size and predrilled.

David Greenwood, Sales Manager at WDS commented, "Thanks to our new 'specials' service we were able to supply the customer with a better product at no extra cost, we also managed to deliver this complete order 10 days ahead of schedule".

The clip design specified was also nonstandard and had to be cut, pressed and zinc plated by WDS.

Greenwood cited the Just Trays mounting system as: "a perfect example of how the 'specials' service has transformed WDS from a catalogue supplier into a company who takes all enquiries and provides cost effective and innovative solutions to a customer's needs.

We can design and manufacture custom solutions across all industries, whether it is a complex mounting device, hydraulic workholding system or fastener made from an exotic alloy".

Responding to the WDS service, Colin McDouagh, purchaser at Just Trays commented that: "WDS were able to provide quality components on short lead times, allowing production of our Merlin range to be kept on target and enabling us to maintain the high standards which our customers have come to expect from all our products".

The 'specials' service complements the WDS catalogue, which contains over 10,000 fixtures, fittings, standard parts and items of production equipment.

All products are kept in stock at WDS, enabling orders to be dispatched same day for next day delivery as standard.

Customers can also use the website to download CAD drawings, check photos, technical specifications and prices before ordering.
