Pneumatic clamps speed up production

A WDS product story

WDS has a new range of pneumatic toggle clamps for automating setup procedures in machining operations.

WDS has a new range of pneumatic toggle clamps for automating setup procedures in machining operations.

The clamps improve profitability by reducing production times by up to 40%, improve accuracy and allow for a safer working environment.

WDS can supply vertical, push-pull and pneumatic press designs that perform up to 60 cycles per minute and offer nominal holding forces of 25kN.

By using the WDS pneumatic clamping system on machining jigs and fixtures, load-to-unload time can be reduced by as much as 40% over traditional workholding methods such as strap clamps and other manually operated systems.

All that is required is a flick of a valve switch and consistent workholding pressures can be instantly applied or released.

The system also uses fewer clamps than traditional methods, making items easier to load and unload.

Using a semi-automated clamping method such as this can also improve operator safety and reduce rejects by reducing the possibility of human error in the clamping process.

The new range includes ten pneumatic toggle clamps with operating pressures ranging from 2 to 6bar and nominal holding forces of up to 25kN.

There are four types of vertical clamp available, featuring an adjustable clamp element for easy positioning, three push-pull types and three bench mounted press type versions.

Clamps can perform up to 60 cycles per minute and maintain a high level of repeatable accuracy, significantly increasing productivity levels and reducing the machine time required by each item.

Each clamp is supplied with setscrews and nuts as standard and is available with a wide range of optional accessories from basic airline fittings to safety control modules, valves and regulator kits.

The new products are all featured in the clamping section of the latest WDS catalogue, which also includes standard, swing arm, cam, double-edged and manual toggle clamps, in addition to a new range of magnetic clamps and hydraulic workholding devices.
