Convertors extend serial device reach on Ethernet
Westermo has updated its range of industrial Ethernet convertors with an all-new dual serial to Ethernet device and significant enhancements to the ED-20 industrial router and ED-10 UDP convertor.
Westermo has updated its range of industrial Ethernet convertors with an all-new dual serial to Ethernet device and significant enhancements to the ED-20 industrial router and ED-10 UDP serial convertor.
Like all Westermo products the units have been designed to industrial specifications and include total galvanic isolation between the serial ports, Ethernet interface and the integral 10-60V DC power supply.
The units have also been designed to function reliably in areas with high electromagnetic fields.
All three use the Westermo ED-Tool software to ensure fast, user-friendly configuration.
Configuration can be done locally via an RS232 cable or inband using the Telnet protocol.
The ED-12 TCP is designed to convert serial data streams into TCP packets for transmission over Ethernet.
It features twin ports to allow two simultaneous serial channels to run.
The unit has both RS232 and RS422/485 interfaces available as standard.
This compact unit is ideal for connecting older legacy equipment to new industrial Ethernets.
Using com port redirector software the ED-12 TCP can be quickly and easily integrated into systems.
The enhanced ED-10 UDP is a single-port convertor that encapsulates serial data into UDP packets.
This features an IP broadcast function which makes it possible for devices such as fire panels, access control systems and industrial controllers with existing RS232/485 ports but on different Ethernet subnets to be connected up to a company's nationwide network infrastructure.
The ED-20 is an industrial router that allows remote connections to be made over modems.
The ED-20 can be used in conjunction with a PSTN modem to achieve a remote dial-in connection to an Industrial Ethernet network using standard Windows dial-up software.
In another mode the unit can be used to provide a low speed data link between two networks over lease line modems.
This allows the addition of small subnetworks to a main network even when the distance between them may be many miles.
The ED-20 can even initiate a call via PSTN or ISDN on receipt of a packet destined for a particular IP address on a separate network, which is ideal for alarm applications or when data needs to be collected periodically from a number of sites.
