Three technical presentations given by industry experts from Elpro Technologies and Westermo will address the topics of GSM/GPRS, industrial Ethernet and wireless Ethernet individually.
The emphasis will be on explaining the technologies and describing suitable applications.
Running in parallel to the technical presentations will be hands on training sessions for the Westermo GSM/GPRS modems and serial to Ethernet convertors.
Participants will specifically be given hands-on experience of setting IP addresses and establishing connections to serial devices over Ethernet and GPRS.
In addition to the presentations and training there will be live working demonstrations of remote PLC communications, Profibus connectivity, Ethernet timeserving, redundant-ring Ethernet, radio telemetry and industrial modems.
A discussion will be held on the pros and cons of Wi-Fi and low power radio for the transmission of Ethernet.
Many factors must be considered when using wireless technology including security, transmission range, bandwidth and regulations.
An explanation of how GSM and GPRS work and practical explanation of how to access the services provided by the mobile network providers to gain the best performance will be provided.
The pitfalls and advantages of using the different networks and what you need to know about SIMs, APNs etc will be described.
The event will explore many aspects of industrial Ethernet, including environmental specifications, determinism, redundancy, SNMP network management and multicasting.
The technology behind redundant rings, real time Ethernet and the basics of timeserving will be explained.
