Stand-alone industrial radio modem connects 10/100baseT Ethernet networks wirelessly using 869MHz unlicensed radio technology, providing a data rate up to 77Kbit/s.

Westermo Data Communications has released a stand-alone industrial radio modem that provides long range and high reliability when connecting 10/100baseT Ethernet networks wirelessly The Elpro 805U-E is for industrial Ethernet connections in process control and factory automation applications such as PLCs, DCS, Scada, data acquisition and wireless video

The module uses 869MHz unlicensed radio technology and provides a data rate of up to 77Kbit/s for congested industrial environments with a range of over 500m through buildings, factory walls and steelwork.

It is suitable for long and short-range applications, with a maximum range of 5km.

A repeater function can increase the range.

It incorporates multiple layers of error detection and correction, plus an automatic changeover to another access point if the wireless link fails.

As well as having secure firewall protection, it makes use of military-grade AES security encryption of the wireless data.

The module can be configured using a web browser as an access point, bridge, router or client-station.

Remote configuration and diagnostics are available via the wireless link.

To improve the management of the wireless data, the module uses a message filtering system at the MAC address level.

Din rail mountable and housed in a heavy-duty aluminium case, the 805U-E is suitable for industrial and outdoor use in temperatures between -40 and +60C.

There are two serial interfaces (RS232 and RS485) and 10-30V DC power supply options.
