High performance industrial radio modems provide wireless links between serial devices over long distances and in demanding industrial applications.

Westermo Data Communications has released a new range of high performance industrial radio modems to provide wireless links between serial devices over long distances and in demanding industrial applications.

The Elpro 455U series form a robust and secure platform to provide high-speed wireless connectivity via licensed radio channels.

Designed and built for systems applications requiring the higher level of reliability offered by licensed radio channels, the 455Us can connect to PLCs, HMIs, DCS, data acquisition, video devices and industrial PCs.

Designed for a broad range of applications, especially within the utility industries, the 455U-D can be used for example to connect remote PLCs in a Scada system within the water and waste water industry, provide wireless links to substation remote terminal units (RTUs) for the electricity industry or to access field data loggers units in oil and gas industries.

The 455Us can be configured as an access point, client/station, a bridge, repeater or a router.

The unit can be used for alarm output, powering up local devices or as a hot redundant standby.

The 455Us are capable of transmitting data at up to 19.2Kbit/s over distances of 30-100km (depending on terrain and local radio regulations).

The 455U has user configurable RF power of 0.5 to 5W, and cover the frequency range 380-512MHz.

The data transfer is secured using military grade 128bit AES encryption.

The 455U series uses multiple device connectivity (MDC) functionality.

With two data ports, the 455U modem can handle two independent connectivity applications simultaneously.

Several intelligent networking modes are provided to enable connection to a wide variety of devices including wireless mesh multihop repeater networking.

The 455U also provides optimal path routing and protocol-specific wireless optimisation for Modbus, DNP3, DF1 and Profibus communications.

Bell 202, V23, and 600 ohm audio are supported.

The 455U can be used in operating temperatures of -30 to +60C and in humidity of 99%.

A built-in battery management circuit protects against an uncertain power supply.

The unit is extremely easy to use with free configuration and diagnostics software that can be run either with a direct connection or over the radio.
