Conference to hear low-power radio presentation

A Westermo Data Communications product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 3, 2007

A presentation from Alan Bollard of Westermo Data Communications at the Profibus group User Conference will cover the use of low-power radio for Profibus and Profinet.

A presentation from Alan Bollard of Westermo Data Communications discussing the various radio techniques that can be used on Profibus DP and Profinet systems is one of the highlights of the forthcoming Profibus group User Conference, scheduled for 26th-27th June 2007 at Coombe Abbey near Coventry.

The presentation will cover the use of low-power radio (458 and 869MHz) for both Profibus and Profinet and consider how companies can use wireless Ethernet (2.4Ghz) solutions within Profinet systems.

Each has its benefits but also disadvantages.

The presentation will discuss the consideration that must be given to transmission power, antenna design, bandwidth and latency times for wireless systems in Profibus and Profinet data communications.

The full conference programme is now confirmed and offers three parallel events scheduled over the two days.

Practical hands-on training showing how to design, specify and install Profibus and Profinet networks is offered in the first stream of presentations.

In a parallel second stream, international suppliers and experts in specific aspects of Profibus systems or applications will provide insight into the application and advantages of their approach.

Alongside the conference there is an exhibition where Profibus UK member companies will show their relevant Profibus products and application specialists from the major suppliers will be able to provide advice.

Westermo will have ODW-612 Profibus-DP copper to fibre convertors on its stand showing Profibus DP communications over a fibre optic ring.

It will also have Profibus serial adapters, fieldbus couplers with incorporated Profibus DP master and industrial Ethernet switches/convertors that can be used for Profinet applications.

Delegates can choose to attend specific streams or just the presentations specific to their industry.

There will also be time to take the installation workshops and visit the exhibition.
