Europe's longest galvanising bath
The installation of two new cranes at Worksop Galvanizing has increased capacity and provides customers with the opportunity to take full advantage of Europe's longest galvanising bath.
One-stop service galvanises and coats
In a move set to bring a range of benefits to its varied customer base, Acrow Galvanizing has joined forces with powder coating specialist Quality Industrial Coatings.
The intricate tubular steel structure was manufactured by Yorkshire-based Westbury Tubular Structures and surrounds a 29m viewing tower affording views of the Manchester Ship Canal and city centre.
Worksop Galvanizing, a Wedge Group Galvanizing company, was charged with the task of hot dip galvanising the awkwardly shaped tubular sections, which featured connecting stubs and measured up to 16m in length.
Although the company's 21m long galvanising bath proved more than adequate for the 250t consignment of large steel components, other considerations made this a particularly challenging project, as Worksop Galvanizing's Commercial Manager, Paul Robinson, explains: "Because of the complexity of the tubular sections special attention had to be given to the position of suspension points and drainage holes in order to eliminate the possibility of unsightly air pockets in the galvanised finish and guarantee a uniform and aesthetically superior coating".
Westbury Tubular Structures specialises in the manufacture of intricate tubular steel structures and has undertaken major architectural projects both in the UK and overseas, on high profile buildings including London's Waterloo Station and the visually stunning McAlpine Sports Stadium in Huddersfield.
Planning Manager, Derek George, comments: "We worked very closely with the team at Worksop to ensure that every aspect of this application met the high standards which our customers have come to expect.
We were particularly pleased with the way in which the galvanising team bent over backwards to achieve a high quality finish despite the massive challenge posed by the project".
The Imperial War Museum - North was designed by internationally acclaimed architect, Daniel Libeskind, and opened in early July 2002 to widespread acclaim and media attention.
