Parkes Galvanizing of Stratford has completed the galvanising of over 310m of fencing for West Ham United Football Club's Boleyn Ground at Upton Park, East London.

Parkes Galvanizing of Stratford has completed the galvanising of over 310m of fencing for West Ham United Football Club's Boleyn Ground at Upton Park, East London, which is undergoing its GBP 35 million redevelopment programme.

The GBP 35 million development scheme began in the summer of 2000 with the first phase of the work being the construction of the new Dr Martin's Stand.

This replaced the old West Stand, and was officially opened in November 2001 by Her Majesty the Queen.

The Dr Martin's Stand has increased the club's seating capacity from 26,100 to 35,500.

The second phase of the development, the construction of the new East Stand, will increase capacity to 40,000.

Working for contractor Crown Services and Suppliers, Parkes galvanised the iron fencing which can be seen housing the two new car parks at each side of the stadium and also the red painted fencing which is integral to the newly built brick wall surrounding the ground.

The original main gates, which date back to the 1920's, have been restored as a feature of the redevelopment.

Parkes also galvanised the blue-painted balconies on the front of the Dr Martens Stand and also various stand fabrications such as the steps in the upper tier and the kick plates for the TV commentators' gantry.

Roy James, Commercial Manager, Parkes Galvanizing, comments: "We are very proud to have contributed to the redevelopment of West Ham United's Boleyn Ground which is stunning.

Throughout the duration of the work we provided our customer, Crown, with the reassurance that it could send us fabrications to be galvanised at any time and we would offer a quality product and service, turn the job around quickly and then deliver the work to West Ham United".
