Galvanizing victory for War Museum project
A galvanising project featured in the newly opened Imperial War Museum - North has been awarded joint first prize in the Galvanizers Association Hot Dip Galvanizing Awards 2002.
The company chose to use galvanising as a long-term protection against corrosion.
The tapered duo-decagon (20-sided) masts are constructed from three linear sections, the middle section measuring about 11m in length, along with head units and a platform and handrail.
Weighing about 7t each, the masts are designed to allow 1m of sway in each direction at the top of the mast.
Each of the four masts incorporates 24, 2kW floodlights, providing a total of 500lux luminance on the horizontal over the complete area of the playing surface.
Using the efficient network of nationwide Wedge Group plants, Metaltreat enlisted the services of Worksop Galvanizing to hot dip galvanise the longer lengths of steel in its 21m-long galvanising bath, offering the customer a quick turnaround and a quality finish.
CU Phosco Lighting has also worked closely with The Galvanizers Association over the past 10-years to ensure that all mast designs have suitably placed vents to allow perfect drainage of zinc during the hot dip galvanising process and to prevent distortion.
Metaltreat's Commercial Manager Roger Hewitt says: "We are delighted to have worked with CU Phosco Lighting on this prestigious project.
CU Phosco Lighting is a local organisation with worldwide recognition and together we have provided a durable, elegant and safe solution to Odsal Stadium's lighting requirements".
David Hunter, Works Manager of CU Phosco Lighting, Cleckheaton comments: "We chose Metaltreat as it is a long standing supplier which offers us a quick turn around, a quality product and an efficient service".
CU Lighting provides complete turnkey lighting solutions including design, manufacture, installation and servicing for a diverse range of applications including sports grounds, municipal centres, seaports and airports.
The company can also supply wind turbine and mobile phone masts, and has supplied its products to almost every country in the world.
