The latest silo which has been galvanised successfully by Humber Galvanizing was destined for Port Said on the Suez Canal.
Tony Linsley of Humber Galvanizing said that the company was being contracted by its customer to galvanise all parts of the silos, including support steelwork, platforms, ladders and other structural steel.
He explained that galvanising the silos was the ideal method of protecting the silos in order to withstand different climate conditions including very cold and wet weather in countries such as Ukraine and Russia and even in coastal regions in hot countries where the steel would be required to withstand high levels of salt from sea-water.
Rex Hilton, Sales Director of Bentall Rowlands Storage Systems, said: "We are currently achieving our best ever orders, including a GBP 2 million order from Sudan and a $2 million order in Tanzania".
"All our silos are manufactured in Scunthorpe and they are 100% galvanised".
"The galvanising is an essential part of the manufacturing process".
He said that the grain storage silos ranged from units which hold 500 tonnes of grain to 10,000 tonnes, the largest being 27 metres in diameter and 33.5m tall.
Humber Galvanizing, based at Citadel Trading Park, is equipped with a state-of-the-art fully enclosed galvanising bath measuring 5.5 x 1.2 x 2.8m, which meets all current European and British environment-protection regulations.
