The 415V, three-phase AC motors range from 15 to 315kW and are being used on Weir Pumps in slag slurry, slag granulation, cooling circuit water and recirculation duties via vee belt drive trains.
Electric motors keep tunnel air breathable
Variable speed control through drives enables the ventilation requirements to be precisely met by fan speed and the installation was designed for minimal noise pollution for local residents
"The appointment of two such highly experienced industry professionals underlines our commitment to establishing WEG as a major force in the UK market for medium and high voltage motors", said David Ede, Managing Director of WEG UK.
"The continuing success and wide market acceptance of our low voltage products provides the ideal platform for our move into the higher voltage market.
The reputation we have established for quality is all- important with HV machines, and this, combined with competitive pricing, will ensure our success in this extremely lucrative market sector".

Both of WEG's new appointments are time served electrical engineers who had risen to management positions prior to joining WEG.
Colin Cox was previously business development manager for motors/projects with Cegelec and before that worked for GEC Alsthom as UK Sales Manager.
In his time at Alsthom Cox was responsible for developing HV business in Europe and also travelled widely across the globe, securing major projects in both the developing Russian and Indian markets.
The second of the two Colins, Colin Jones, was also at Alsthom - and GEC before it, clocking up over 20 years service in technical and sales positions with the two companies.
Jones' last position before leaving to join WEG was area sales manager responsible for contracts, identification of new products, order negotiation and order handover.
"The challenge, which both myself and Colin Jones are really looking forward to, is to repeat the success that WEG is enjoying in the LV motor market", said Cox.
"Our combined experience and market knowledge combined with a first class and competitively priced product means that we have all the ingredients to repeat that success, in the process delivering more value and performance to UK users of medium and high voltage motors".
WEG's new medium and high voltage motors have been developed in conjunction with a major engineering consultancy and with universities in Europe, USA and Brazil.
The result is a modern range that provides outstanding performance and high efficiency in a wide range of applications.
The motors are available with output ratings up to 22MW and with voltages ranging from 220V to 13.8kV.
