Motor range expands to medium and high voltages
The H and M Line ranges of motors offer UK users of medium- and high-voltage motors with a highly reliable and cost effective alternative.
WEG is providing UK users of medium- and high-voltage motors with a highly reliable and cost effective alternative, following the launch of the company's H Line and M Line ranges of motors.
Both ranges have been designed by WEG's own team of highly qualified engineers, in conjunction with consultants and universities worldwide, to provide outstanding performance and high efficiency in the most severe industrial, processing and petrochemical applications.
The introduction of the new motor ranges builds upon WEG's success in the European low-voltage sector with its high- and premium-efficiency ranges of motors.
The H Line motors are the smaller units in the range, catering for outputs to 3150kW and voltages up to 6600V (50 or 60Hz).
Manufactured in IEC frame sizes from 315 to 630, H Line motors are compact and extremely robust machines with cast-iron frames, corrosion resistant finishing and galvanised mounting components.
As a result they are ideally suited to operating conditions encountered in the most arduous industrial applications.
In these applications the combination of an internal cooling circuit, external cooling fins and high-efficiency cooling fans guarantees a favourable temperature gradient within the motor, which both protects and extends the operating life of the motor windings.
Equally robust in construction is WEG's cast iron or welded steel plate M Line motor range.
Designed for larger applications in the output range up to 20MW and voltage range to 13,800V, the M Line range of motors provide outstanding performance and high-efficiency operation.
Key to this performance is a design that delivers excellent structural strength and low levels of vibration and noise.
The same design also provides the user with the flexibility for eight different methods of cooling to meet the constraints of individual applications.
In addition to foot-mounted machines, which are available with either grease lubricated rolling, or oil lubricated plain bearings, the M Line range also offers vertical shaft flange mounted medium and high voltage motors, which are individually designed to match the external thrust loads of specific applications.
In their standard form these motors use grease or oil-lubricated antifriction bearings.
However, for very high external thrust loads an alternative oil-lubricated thrust and guide pad/sleeve bearing design is available.
To ensure reliable, long life operation in the demanding applications for which they are designed, both the H Line and M Line motors use coils that are specially designed to suit the voltage and the application for which the motor is intended.
Further aiding reliability is WEG's state-of the-art (and environmentally friendly) VPI (vacuum pressure impregnation) system.
This guarantees high quality insulation and stator coil protection through the application of a special epoxy based resin to the motor windings.
WEG's attention to detail in the design and manufacture of the H and M Line motors also extends to dynamic balancing at motor operating speeds.
The benefit of this to the user is extended bearing and motor life together with a significant noise reduction.
In most cases the standard balance is in two planes, but WEG also have the capability of providing three-plane balancing when requested.
Irrespective of the level required, however, the balance is computer controlled and capable of meeting very low vibration levels.
The role of dynamic balancing in extending bearing life in the H and M Line motors is complemented by two additional factors; the quality of the bearings themselves and the efficient grease lubrication system that supplies them.
Both motor types use only high quality ball, roller or split bearings from top manufacturers worldwide.
The bearings are dimensioned to ensure long motor life even under the most arduous working conditions.
To help ensure extended life, they employ a pressure grease relief system n innovative grease lubrication system, which enables old grease to be removed and replenished with new while the motor is running.
WEG's H and M Line motors are manufactured in accordance with an ISO9001 quality system.
The motors are certified by internationally recognised bodies such as PTB in Germany and CSA in Canada.
