Motors chosen for blast furnace job
The 415V, three-phase AC motors range from 15 to 315kW and are being used on Weir Pumps in slag slurry, slag granulation, cooling circuit water and recirculation duties via vee belt drive trains.
The stainless steel Shark unit is designed for applications up to 7.5kW and is integral to a two part package supplied by WEG, including IP56 motors, which can be supplied with special paint or epoxy finishes if required.
Complying with a host of international standards, including UL-50, UL-508C, IEC146, EN61800-3, EN61010-1 and EN50178, the Shark employs WEG's unique Vectrue technology, which provides the user with the benefits of software selectable V/F, sensorless vector, closed loop vector operation in a single product.
Central to this technology is a powerful 32bit RISC microprocessor to ensure the fastest dynamic response and absolute control of speed and torque in the most demanding of applications.

The costs of poor motor sizing
Incorrect specification makes a mockery of manufacturers' efforts to improve motor efficiency, argues Andrew Glover.
In addition to unique Vectrue technology, the stainless-steel CFW09 Shark integrates rheostatic braking for applications that require reduced stopping times.
The braking resistor used in this operation is provided with electronic heat protection to ensure high levels of reliability.
The CFW-09 Shark is equally at home in stand-alone drive applications or as an intelligent "node" in high-speed factory communication networks.
To assist easy network integration, the drive is supported by a range of optional plug-in Profibus DP, DeviceNet and Modbus RTU fieldbus modules.
Where more simplified communication is required RS232 serial interface kits are provided, and optional I/O expansion boards.
These include an RS485 serial interface, analogue and digital I/O (much of it programmable) and an input for a PTC type temperature sensor.
Complementing the operation of the CFW-09 Shark is WEG's optional SuperDrive software, for on/offline programming with a PC.
This software permits the parameterisation, command and monitoring of WEG drives in a Windows environment.
In addition to online and offline parameter changing, SuperDrive also provides parameter download and upload functions.
For programming of single drives (point-to-point) using SuperDrive, an RS232 serial interface is employed, with optional RS485 provided for network communication with up to 30 drives maximum.
