Soft starters provide high repeatability
The versatility of the SSW-07 is based on digital signal processing (DSP) control, which combines accuracy and repeatability in the start up sequences with ease of configuration and programming.
WEG's SSW-07 soft starters cover a 17 to 200A, three-phase, 220 to 575V AC range in three compact models The SSW-07 delivers increased reliability and longer life for motors and mechanical transmissions and couplings

TRW Pontypool has an ongoing programme to replace standard electric motors in its plant with high-efficiency types, including W21 Premium motors from WEG UK.
High-efficiency motors make big savings
WEG reckons its W21 line of high efficiency motors provides one of the most cost effective and simple ways to reduce energy costs to combat the effects of the Climate Change Levy.
Starting modes can be chosen to suit the application and the soft starters offer integral electronic motor protection, easy configuration and a range of fieldbus communications.
The versatility of the SSW-07 is based on digital signal processing (DSP) control, which combines accuracy and repeatability in the start up sequences with ease of configuration and programming.
DSP enables the SSW-07 to provide both a low-inertia start and a high breakaway torque load start and limits initial voltage drop while avoiding high current spikes or inrush current.
Norton Petry, Product Development Manager of WEG Automation, said: "This makes the SSW-007 ideal for a very wide variety of industrial applications duties from pumps and fans to conveyors, compressors, saws and extruders".
"Energy savings are achieved through the built-in bypass which minimises power losses and heat dissipation in the thyristors; it operates at ambient temperatures up to 55C without downgrading or current reduction".
The bypass also keeps the SSW-07 small , making it easy to install in panels and equipment packages.
Sizes range from 162 to 276mm high, 95 to 223mm wide and 157 to 220mm deep.
Weights range from 1.3 to 5kg.
Options include the hand-held man machine interface keypad, which can be plugged into the front panel or remotely operated.
Modules are also available for Modbus, DeviceNet or Profibus fieldbus DCS networks, which enable PC configuration and programming through a front-mounted RS232 port.
Other modules include motor positive temperature coefficient (PTC) protection and a ventilation kit for heavy-duty starting cycles.
