Frequency inverter protects against water and dust

A WEG Electric Motors product story

WEG has launched its IP56-rated, CFW-08 Wash frequency inverter to provide greater protection for inverter drive applications in the food, beverage and chemical industries.

The CFW-08 Wash is designed for applications that require a higher degree of protection against the ingress of contaminants; the drive's IP56 (Nema 4X) rating providing effective safeguarding against the ingress of dust and water.

The CFW-08 Wash is based on the technology of WEG's current CFW-08 product line.

As such, it uses WEG's Space Vector Modulation for optimised motor control and quiet operation.

The Wash also offers users the performance benefits of 32-bit RISC microprocessor controlled PWM output, and the flexibility and convenience of adjustable switching frequencies of 2.5/5/10/15kHz.

Designed to cater for single-phase applications from 0.75kW to 3.7kW and three-phase applications to 15kW, the CFW-08 Wash is a compact range of drives integrating a wide of functions that allow integration into most applications.

The CFW-08 operates in two control modes, V/F and Sensorless Vector, and has features including linear and S acceleration and deceleration ramps, local remote control, dynamic braking, torque boost, motor slip compensation, JOG, ride through, PID regulator, maximum and minimum adjustable frequency limits, speeds, adjustable V/F profile, preset speeds, two skip frequencies, flying start, plus built-in Devicenet, Modbus RTU and CanOpen Fieldbus protocols, with Profibus DP as an option.

The standard operating mode of the CFW-08 Wash, V/F, is suited to variable torque loads, and includes a selectable energy saving feature, which reduces motor losses when operating at lower speeds.

This control mode also permits the drives to operate in multi-motor applications where more than one motor is supplied by a drive.

The alternative operating mode, Sensorless Vector Control, allows the drive to precisely control the speed and torque of a motor, enabling the CFWO8 wash to be used on demanding duties such as conveyors and extruders.

Extending the operating ability of the CFW08 Wash range are options that provide maximum application flexibility.

These include Superdrive, WEG's software program for drive control direct from a PC or PLC.

The CFW-08 Wash has been designed with all aspects of safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in mind.

The drive has built-in EMC filters, which can be disassembled from the product for cleaning and maintenance.

It also integrates protective features such as: over current/output short-circuit, output ground fault, DC link under/over voltage, inverter over temperature, motor/inverter overload (IxT), external fault, programming error, self-tuning error and defective inverter.
