Enclosures protect trackside safety equipment

A Weidmuller (UK) product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 1, 2002

A new series of remotely heated point heaters on the East Coast Main Line uses Weidmuller K Series enclosures to protect the connection assembly against all adverse trackside conditions.

Part of the continuing drive to further improve the operational status of the UK East Coast Main Line, the installation of a new series of remotely heated point heaters by Kent PHK will reduce weather-related problems.

An essential element in the system is the Weidmuller K Series enclosure that protects the connection assembly against all adverse trackside conditions.

Weidmuller K Series enclosures are constructed in aluminium and offer environmental protection to IP66 and IP67.

As well as preventing moisture ingress to ensure full functionality under exposed conditions including precipitation, snow melt and even salt spray, the robustly built K Series also provides high impact resistance to avoid damage from falling objects or track work.

Robert Kent of Kent PHK commented: "Integrity and protection is essential for this application which is why we use the K Series enclosure for the job".

Further features include the design of the enclosure mounting with the holes outside the sealed area, an internal earth stud for continued earth integrity and DIN rail mounting points which are used to mount equipment such as the Weidmuller W Series terminals supplied for this application.

The Weidmuller K Series enclosures are suitable for an extensive range of industrial and marine applications, with full ATEX certificated versions also available.
