New regional exhibition and educational event taking place at Newbury Exhibition Centre will feature a series of maintenance seminars.

Running across two days at Pemec 2006, a new regional exhibition and educational event taking place at Newbury Exhibition Centre on the 25-26th October 2006, will be a series of maintenance seminars Part of a comprehensive seminar programme, the maintenance seminars will complement educational content that includes information on energy efficiency and manufacturing philosophies and techniques

The first seminar, which begins at 1000 BST on Wednesday 25th October, is presented by Nord-Lock UK and is entitled "Bolt security and torque techniques".

Delegates at this seminar can see practical examples of various types of tightening techniques and friction systems, locks and the theory behind them and also different applications of bolt grade.

This is followed at 1100 BST by a presentation from Flir Systems who will be asking the question: "What is thermography?".

The presentation will provide an introduction to using infra-red cameras for temperature measurement in an industrial environment and will look at what issues influence the way a measurement is taken.

At midday, Holroyd Instruments will address the issues of "Acoustic emission based condition monitoring", providing a wide variety of real applications that will illustrate both the effectiveness and versatility of this technique.

1300 BST sees Wyko present a paper entitled "Energy conservation as part of the maintenance strategy" addressing the issues of the recent rises in energy costs and how the impact of these can be reduced through maintenance.

Finally, between 1400 and 1500 BST on day one, Hawk IR will again look at the subject of thermography but this time focusing on how sightglasses enable a safe visual, infra-red and nondestructive inspection of internal areas of protected closed cells, allowing thermographers to clearly recognise the thermal signatures of problems during predictive maintenance without the need to open the enclosure.

Day two, Thursday 26th October, begins with a look at "Condition monitoring - vibration" presented by SPM, and at 1100 BST Fluke present a seminar entitled "Thermal imaging as part of a predictive maintenance programme".

This presentation will show the use of a predictive maintenance program in industrial and commercial applications and how thermal imaging can be an integrated part of the programme.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the detection of potential electrical failures and power quality issues.

This seminar is followed at 1300 BST by a paper presented by the Reliability Team entitled "Using root cause analysis to improve your predictive maintenance programme".

This presentation discusses how root cause analysis and failure mode effect analysis can become important tools to bring together your maintenance methods, predictive maintenance and operating procedures to improve reliability.

The final seminar, beginning at 1400 BST on day two, sees Igus UK addressing the issues of "Selecting the right cable for dynamic applications".

Igus' premise is that standard electrical cables have a simple construction which is not generally sympathetic to dynamic applications.

A well-designed dynamic cable will have several features to combat the three failure modes.

Delegates can learn about the electrical and mechanical information required in order to correctly select a dynamic cable.

Attendance at any of these seminars is free but delegates are advised to register in advance on the show website.

Here visitors can find more details about the other seminars taking place at the event as well as the exhibitors who will be showing a mix of products and services, all of it aimed at engineers and maintenance professionals.

Pemec 2006 is easy to visit as it is located at the Newbury Exhibition Centre, just off the M4 motorway on the Newbury Racecourse site.

The site is easily reached from London, the South Coast, the M4 corridor and the South West.

The exhibition centre has ample free parking and an on-site railway station.
