The Mayor of Winchester, Councillor Neil Baxter will present the prizes at the Innovention 2005 competition and exhibition.

After agreeing to award the prizes at the Hampshire, England based Innovention 2005 competition and exhibition, The Right Worshipful, The Mayor of Winchester, Councillor Neil Baxter is clearly giving his seal of approval to this prestigious event.

On 24th June, inventors and innovators from across the Wessex region will gather at Innovention 2005 to display an amazing range of ideas and inventions.

Taking place at the Intech Centre near Winchester, this prestigious event offers a GBP 25,000 prize pool to help the winning inventors and innovators take their ideas forward.

As previous Director of Corporate affairs in Brussels for Basingstoke based Ely Lilly, the new mayor is no stranger to the cut and thrust of the business world and fully appreciates the commitment shown by these entrepreneurs in transforming their ideas into potential best sellers: "I am delighted to be awarding the prizes at Innovention 2005".

"I am firmly committed to promoting activities like this, which not only reward these inventors for their skills and commitment, but also have the potential for offering further inward investment within Hampshire".

The Intech Centre is a fitting location for this event.

Opened at its new site on 1st August 2002 by the Duke of Edinburgh in the presence of the new Mayor of Winchester (then Ward Member for Itchen Valley), it has a sound reputation for promoting all aspects of science and technology.

If previous years are anything to go by, the mayor will find a lot to interest him at Innovention, and the judges will have their work cut out to choose the worthy winners.

And it's not just science and high technology they're looking for.

Last year's winner in the individual category was the "panel duvet" - a simple idea of placing zips between duvet panels - allowing it to change size or be washed in small sections.

Its inventor Pat Steele used her prize money to help set up a new website to advertise and sell her inventions online and is now earning a tidy sum.

Simple ideas, complex ideas, ideas for DIY, for home and the office - all these and much more will be on view at the Innovention 2005 competition and exhibition which takes place at Intech, Winchester, Hampshire on Friday 24th June.
