Wilson Tool International has developed a simple solution for the creation of location tabs for future tasks such as assembly or welding on sheet metal components produced on a punch press.

The Scrape-up Locator tool avoids the need for half shears which are normally used to create holding or positioning tabs.

Unlike half shear tooling, which creates a holding tab similar to an electrical knockout, the action of the new Wilson-developed tool simply scrapes up material from the underside of the sheet using a cam-type insert to create a precisely positioned tab.

Its action does not distort the component nor detract from the cosmetics of the part.

Wilson Tool International of Swindon is able to produce the Scrape-up Locator tool to create the tab on either the bottom or top of the sheet being processed.
