The Ford WISE Prizes aim to acknowledge outstanding female engineering students in their penultimate year of study.

Women only account for 18% of those studying engineering in the UK and only 5% of professional engineers And although industry is increasingly trying to attract women, they are still underrepresented at all levels

Is it because many women hold outdated and inaccurate views on a career in engineering or because there still aren't enough women role models?.

The Ford WISE Prizes sponsored by The Ford Motor Company and WISE (Women Into Science and Engineering) and supported by IEE, IIE and IMechE, promote women who choose engineering as a discipline for their careers and aims to acknowledge outstanding female engineering students in their penultimate year of study.

Lewis Booth, Chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe said: "Ford Motor Company is proud to be involved in the sponsorship of the Ford WISE prizes - and the opportunity to recognise significant engineering achievement by female undergraduates".

"I am a strong supporter of such initiatives and the encouragement this offers to engineers of the future".

There are two categories and therefore two prizes of GBP 750: one for students on a four year MEng or BEng course forming the academic foundation for Chartered Engineer registration; and one for students studying on a three year BSc or BEng course which can form the academic foundation for Incorporated Engineer registration.
