Are T-Slotted Machine Tables a Thing of the Past?

A Wixroyd International product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 20, 2000

The Zero Point System enables machine users to locate any size fixture or device onto the machine bed within a few seconds to micron accuracy.

Anthony Iafrate, Sales Director of Wixroyd International (suppliers of clamping, fixturing and productivity improvement systems) believes that in a few years time many companies will not be using T slotted machine tables.

His opinion is that a recent innovation to the work-holding market will make the use of T slotted tables of little interest to a wide range of Vertical CNC machine users in the near future.

At the moment most people use T-slots to fix a range of work-holding systems to the machine bed.

This can include vices, fixtures, clamps, modular fixtures, 5th axis tables etc.

The trouble here is that this can take up a considerable amount of time clocking the part or fixture in and bolting it to the machine table.

Wixroyd have just launched a new system, The Zero Point System, which enables machine users to locate any size fixture or device onto the machine bed within a few seconds to micron accuracy.

The applications for this system are mainly users with single pallet machines and small to medium batch jobs where fixtures and or components need to be taken regularly on and off the machine.

Typically aerospace work is a frequent application and the typical cost of fitting a machine out with the Wixroyd Zero Point system is around ?4,000 per machine.
