The Wixroyd 500 page catalogue is full of new and innovative products and none more so than their, Hydraulically Controlled Clamping Sleeves - system Kostyrka Combining a slit flexible brass cylinder body enclosed in a white polyamide jacket these hydraulic clamping sleeves, have been designed to clamp and centre cylindrical parts, such as spindles, quilshafts, columns and piston rods etc

The hydraulic pressure enables a far greater clamping force to be transmitted - with no efficiency loss, while clamping and releasing at great speed.

The simple design of Wixroyd's hydraulic clamping sleeves, is space saving and maintenance free, with the added attraction of being program controllable.

Typical applications range from, clamping a cross head of a 20MW (2000 ton) four-column press - during working stroke, the clamping of tandem milling spindle in the milling head of a machine tool, to the incorporation of 2 X clamping sleeves - with integrated wipers - clamping the double tailstock of a specially designed turning machine.

They are also extensively designed into assembly lines in the automobile and aerospace industry.

Wixroyd's Hydraulic Clamping Sleeves - system Kostyrka are commonly used in special fixture design and have many benefits due to their small wall thickness.

For example they are, ideal for use in a small confined space, highly efficient -oil pressure is fully converted into radial clamping, motion -free working means there is no axial displacement of components when clamped, they are resistant to mineral oils, temperature resistant upto 120C.

Displacement resistance can vary depending on surface conditions (roughness, oil film) of the component to be arrested, but can be determined by the formula: B(kp) = d(cm)xL(cm)x~xP(bar)x0.1 Note: The actual B value measured in practice is 50 - 150% higher.

A typical application is used in a special fixture for the manufacture of turbine blades - here the clamping sleeves were installed, in close proximity, to provide firm support for the turbine blades during machining.

The supporting pins are positioned against the workpiece by air and clamped by oil via Wixroyd's clamping sleeves.

This ensures vibration - free machining and low wear on tooling of the workpiece over its entire surface.

Another typical application example can be found in this fixture diagram providing secure clamping during the machining of a long workpiece.

In this assembly the oil pressure is fed to the two-workholding pistons simultaneously under equal pressure.

Once the pistons are in contact with the workpiece they are arrested by the clamping sleeves using only one oil passage for both piston movement and clamping sleeves.
