Standard parts now available as 3D models

A Wixroyd International product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 29, 2001

With Wixroyd's new CD-Rom, 3D models of many standard engineering parts, such as washers, nuts, studs, as well as more complex clamping and workholding arrangements, can be downloaded for CAD

Wixroyd are launching a new (version 3) CAD CD-ROM - and it's 3D! Marcus Iafrate, Wixroyd's Business Development Manager says, "Wixroyd's new 3D-ROM will be a key design aid for designers and engineers alike.

It is more comprehensive than ever.

Over 70% of our range of standard engineering parts has been produced in the popular 3D formats, 'stepout translation' (Step) and SAT, compatible with many 3D CAD packages, making it easier than ever to integrate parts into fixtures and other technical drawings.

Links to the Wixroyd web-site make it easy to access and cross-reference dimensional details, as well as other product information." Marcus goes on to say that, "The increasing popularity of solid modelling has meant that even the smallest components can be extremely time consuming to reproduce from scratch.

Now however, using Wixroyd's new 3D-Rom, completed models of many standard engineering parts, such as washers, nuts, studs, as well as more complex clamping and workholding arrangements, can be easily downloaded directly into drawings - no fuss, no hassle, no time wasted." Wixroyd's 3D-Rom contains a simple user interface to help the user select the desired product and file format.

There's no need to save the whole CD to the computer's hard drive, simply save files from the CD as and when required.

For AutoCAD 3D users, a full library of parts can be accessed through the addition of a Wixroyd menu to the programme.

2D drawings for all Wixroyd's products are also available to download, where IGES, DXF and AutoCAD 12 to 2000 drawings can be installed to your network of LAN to share with the whole drawing office.
